How does it work?
You choose a book and answer a guided interview, chapter by chapter, by typing, speaking or uploading recordings. After each answer you get one or two follow-up questions that bring out names, places and feelings. Your answers are then written into a finished chapter. You read every chapter, comment on it and approve it before the next one is written.
Who answers the questions?
The person whose story it is (we call them the storyteller). If you buy the book as a gift, you invite them with a link and they answer at their own pace. You can also sit together and answer it with them, or family members can add memories and recordings.
Do I need to be good at writing?
No. Answer the way you would talk. Short answers are fine, and you can speak instead of typing. The writing is our job.
Can the storyteller speak instead of typing?
Yes. Every question can be answered by voice in the browser, and you can upload existing recordings (MP3, M4A or WAV). You check the written-out text before it is used, so names and places are spelled right.
Can I choose how the book is written?
Yes. You choose a writing style before the first chapter and see a sample of each one. You can change the style once for free.
What if I do not like a chapter?
Leave comments on the chapter and we change only that chapter, showing you the text before and after. Two rounds of changes per chapter are included. Nothing is final until you approve it.
How does payment work?
You choose at checkout: pay a deposit now and the rest chapter by chapter, just before each new chapter is written, or pay everything at once and get a discount. You only pay for a chapter when you are happy to continue.
Can I see a sample first?
Yes. Answer five short questions and get a free one-to-two page preview of the story, written in the style you choose. No payment needed.
Can we add photos?
Yes. Upload photos and choose which ones go in the book and where, or let us place them. We warn you if a photo is too small to print well.
What is the difference between the formats?
Digital PDF is a finished e-book to read and share. Print-ready files are the full print layout (inside pages and cover) for your own printer. Softcover and hardcover are printed, bound and delivered to you.
Will I see the book before it is printed?
Yes. You see a page-by-page preview and the cover, and you approve the exact version that will be printed. Because every book is personal, printed books cannot be returned after that approval, so please check it carefully.
Can I give it as a gift?
Yes. Buy the book and invite the storyteller by email, add a personal message and choose when they get the invitation. You can also buy a gift voucher.
Who can see our stories?
Only you, the storyteller and anyone you invite. We never publish or sell your stories. Recordings are deleted after the text is checked. See our privacy policy for details.
Which languages do you write in?
English for now. More languages are planned.
