Terms and conditions

These terms are the agreement between you and us when you order a book. Please read them with our privacy policy and cancellations and refunds page. Nothing here takes away your rights under consumer law.

We turn a person's memories into a written book. The storyteller (or you, on their behalf) answers interview questions by typing or speaking. Each chapter is then drafted by our smart writing process, which uses automated language technology, in the writing style you choose. You read every chapter, can ask for changes, and approve it. We then lay out the book with your photos and deliver it as a PDF, print-ready files, or a printed softcover or hardcover, depending on what you ordered.

The book is written only from what you tell us. We do not check facts, dates or spellings against other sources: please check each chapter carefully before you approve it.

3. Ordering and accounts

• You must be 18 or over to order.
• Your order is accepted when we email the confirmation after your first payment.
• You log in with one-time links sent to your email. Keep access to that email address safe: anyone who can open it can open your book.
• For a gift, you can invite the storyteller by email. They can then answer, read and review the book too. You remain the customer and pay for it.

4. Prices and payment

• Prices are shown in US dollars, pounds or euros and include any tax we must charge. Shipping for printed books is shown before you pay.
• Deposit plan: you pay 25% at checkout, which covers the first chapter. Each further chapter is paid when its answers are complete, before it is written.
• Pay in full: you pay everything at checkout, with the discount shown.
• Final files without the PREVIEW mark, and printing, come after the whole book is paid.
• Payments are handled by Stripe.
• Gift vouchers: a voucher has a money value in one currency and can be used on any book, at checkout or when paying for a chapter. Whatever is not used stays on the code. A voucher is valid for 2 years from purchase (the date is in the email) and cannot be exchanged for cash. Keep the code private: anyone who has it can use it. You can cancel a voucher you bought for a full refund within 14 days, as long as it has not been used.

5. Changes and approvals

• Each chapter includes 2 rounds of changes. You send your comments together; we make them and show you the text before and after, and you keep the version you prefer. Further rounds cost $12 / £10 / €11 per chapter.
• You can change the writing style for free before the first chapter is written, and once more after that. Further style changes cost $29 / £24 / €27, as all written chapters are rewritten.
• When you approve a chapter, its text is final. When you approve the finished book (text, photos and captions), it is made exactly as shown in the preview, and nothing can be changed after that.

6. Your content

• You keep the copyright in your answers, recordings and photos, and in the finished book. You give us permission to use them only to make, print and deliver your book and to help you with it.
• You confirm you have the right to use the photos and recordings you upload, and that the storyteller agrees to take part.
• Please do not include anything unlawful, or anything untrue and harmful about another living person. We may refuse to print content that is unlawful or clearly defamatory, and we will tell you if so.

7. Delivery

• Digital PDF: available in your account as soon as you approve the finished book.
• Print-ready files: available in your account after approval, for use with a printer of your choice.
• Printed books: printed by our print partner after approval and shipped to the address you give. Printing usually takes a few working days, plus shipping time for your country. We tell you the estimated date before you pay for shipping.
• Writing a chapter usually takes a few minutes after its answers are complete. How long the whole book takes depends mostly on how quickly the questions are answered.

8. Cancelling and refunds

Books are made personally for you, so the usual 14-day right to cancel does not apply once we have started writing. See cancellations and refunds for exactly when you can cancel and what we refund, including faulty or damaged printed books.

9. Our responsibility to you

• We make the book with reasonable care and skill, as described here and on the product page.
• If something goes wrong because of us, we will fix it or, if we cannot, refund what you paid for the affected part.
• We are not responsible for losses we could not reasonably foresee, for delays caused by events outside our control, or for mistakes in facts, names or dates that were in the answers or that you approved.
• Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.

10. Keeping your book

Please download and keep your PDF. We keep your book in your account for a limited time after delivery and then delete it, as explained in our privacy policy.

11. Complaints and law

If you are unhappy, email hello@mylegacychapters.com and we will try to put it right quickly. These terms are governed by the law of the country where we are established. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim in your local courts.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version that applies to your order is the one shown when you placed it.
